Poster draft and planning

Initial Draft

  • I decided to take influence from the font I analysed and choose a font that looked like it could have been handwritten by the antagonist or the child character in our trailer. However I sourced my fonts from CoolText and then decided to create my poster on PhotoShop so chose a text I had not analysed from the selection provided by the software used.

Tag Line Ideas
  • It's coming for you

Links to titles in the trailer creating a clear branding and continuity. The direct address brings the audience in and intrigues them, involving them directly in the narrative and creating the sense of fear associated with the horror genre. However it does not link to the child theme in our trailer or go that well with our story line.

  • You're not afraid of the dark... Are you?

Links  to the voiceover used in our trailer and has the child like quality that ties in with our storyline. It also creates an enigma code and sense of foreboding which embodies the atmosphere and genre we wish to portray.

  • Ring a ring a roses, they all fall down

References the voiceover used in our trailer and links with the child like quality that ties in with our storyboard. The link to a nursery rhyme emphasises the child theme and will help interest the target audience who will mostly know the rhyme.

  • I decided to use the tag line, 'You're not afraid of the dark... Are you?'because of it's direct links to the voiceover used in our trailer and the foreboding atmosphere it helps to create.

Poster First Draft

I used the image suggested in my initial draft, as I felt it represented our trailer well and would help the poster stand out by twisting the convention of having a character on film posters by having the doll instead. However, I altered the layout of the text once I started manipulating the image as the space below the image was filled with the credit block and there was an ideal space above for the film title and tag line. I also changed the release date to 'It's Coming', a twist on the conventional 'Coming Soon', as it relates to the titles in our trailer and creates an enigma code, which is very appropriate for the genre of film and may help the film appeal to the target audience.

Final Poster

I have improved my poster by tidying up the credit block by ensuring that the job descriptions are exactly half the size of the names. I have also added a FaceBook and Instagram page for the film under the credit block. This would help to promote the film and create an online 'buzz' which would help make the film more successful in modern society.I also swapped round the title and the tag line as it created better framing for the image and moved up the 'It's Coming' so that it does not get swallowed up by the credit block.
